In a nutshell: Inzite is a video call scheduling platform for business, which has been operating for seven years. According to founder and CEO Darren Hill, Inzite’s pioneering technology empowers businesses of all sizes to connect via tailored scheduling, video calls, messaging, reminders and rich data reporting on just one platform. Inzite works in the worlds of education, enterprise, and financial services.
Argella: What’s your background – how did you become a founder?
Darren Hill: I spent 15 years in investment banking, working at Goldman Sachs, then running a technical team in commodities at JP Morgan. I loved it there, but always had an urge to run my own business. In my last few years in banking I was always thinking about ideas and ways to start my own business.
I started going to start-up events and getting involved in the start-up community in London, and ultimately came up with the idea for Inzite. As soon as I had the idea, things moved quickly.
I left my job, which felt both exciting and nerve wracking, with a lot of work ahead. I set myself some short-term goals – I wanted to get a prototype ready to launch at the Disrupt event, which was just a month away, which certainly kept me focused. We managed it, and were ready to launch at Disrupt.
Argella: What makes you tick as an entrepreneur?
Darren: Ultimately I just really enjoy building things. I love the product side of the business. I’m CEO, but a very technical CEO and I’m directly very involved in the product itself. I love working with our very smart team of developers, and creating a product that’s great for our customers.
Argella: What do you worry about?
Darren: I think I probably share the same worries of most entrepreneurs – technical fixes, product development and ramping up the sales side of our business. Ultimately though I’m a pretty optimistic person, I’m good at compartmentalising when I need to. It’s definitely a helpful skill to be able to put your worries to one side sometimes.
Argella: What advice would you give new and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Darren: If you want to do it, just do it. Make sure you can manage financially, but after that then just go for it. Talk to lots of people, get good advice, go to start-up events and start thinking of yourself as an entrepreneur. Remember there’s nothing to stop you beginning the process while you’re in a full time job, there are plenty of evening events you can get involved with. Just go for it!
Argella: Tell us something most people don’t know about you
Darren: I used to play lead trumpet for my county! More recently than that, I’m a keen snowboarder – probably intermediate level but I love the adrenaline rush of heading down a mountain on a snowboard, it helps me to relax and get away from work. In fact I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie. For the same reason I love kite surfing as well, or really anything on the water.
Argella: How have you found working with Amar and Argella so far?
Darren: I’ve known Amar for over two years now, we met through mutual contacts in late 2019. He is great to work with – he has a huge amount of knowledge and experience, and has been instrumental in helping us with our sales process. Overall, he’s a great advisor to have on our side.
