In a nutshell: Yours Sincerely offers Outsourced Marketing to ambitious, fast-growth businesses across the UK and beyond.
Amar: Yours Sincerely were referred to me by another firm and I subsequently worked with them with a client, before using them at Argella. We share the same set of values and the team is fun to work with, treating each client with the same level of service and respect, regardless of size.
Amar: Can you tell us about your background and how you became a founder?
Dominic: I started my career managing commercial teams, growing to manage full divisions within business across a range of industries, but always with a core strand of marketing and PR. I’ve always wanted to start my own business and when the opportunity came along to do this with a great friend – and someone I hugely respect professionally – it was a no-brainer. I haven’t looked back since.
Amar: What do you most enjoy about being an entrepreneur?
Dominic: My favourite thing is the freedom. In business there are always hard decisions to make, when you run your own business you are able to make your own decisions and either benefit (or suffer) directly. There is no need to follow a path you don’t want to go down.
Amar: What keeps you motivated?
Dominic: A great team around me, fantastic clients and working in an industry which never slows down. Alice in Wonderland comes to mind: “My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that.” I like to move quickly.
Amar: What do you worry about when it comes to work?
Dominic: Everything just a little bit, but hopefully nothing too much. You can never truly know what’s coming tomorrow – you just have to take your best guess and prepare accordingly.
Amar: What’s your biggest business learning?
Dominic: Trust your gut and work with people you trust.
Amar: What advice would you give new and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Dominic: The only person who can make it happen is you and there is no perfect time to do it.
Amar: Anything else to add when it comes to your experiences as a founder?
Dominic: Every day is a school day.
Amar: Tell us something most people don’t know about you…
Dominic: Most people know most things about me. I talk too much.
Amar: Who has inspired you through your journey and why?
Dominic: Other business founders and leaders – less so the famous entrepreneurs that we all think of and more people directly around me. I was inspired greatly by my dad, who always ran his own business and never seemed remotely flustered by any of it.
Amar: What is the most important quality to possess as a leader?
Dominic: Being comfortable with an element of risk.
Amar: What would your dream job be if time, resources and location were no barrier?
Dominic: Travel journalist.
Amar: Have there been any positives to come out of the upheaval of the last two years for you or your business?
Dominic: Something I have always known has become so much more prevalent – namely that relationships are essential and that it is SO important to treat people by a set of values. Basically always treat people the way you would like to be treated.
Amar: Who would play you in a film of your life?
Dominic: Me! Is that arrogant?
